CII Green Power 2026 Spotlights India’s Renewable Energy Roadmap to 500 GW

Chennai, June 9th , 2026 – CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre (CII-GBC) is organizing the 25th edition of Green Power, its flagship annual conference and expo for the renewable energy sector, on 9–10 June 2026 at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai.

Celebrating its silver jubilee edition, Green Power 2026 brought together 400+ industry professionals, leaders, policymakers, technology providers and investors to deliberate on strategies for accelerating India’s clean energy transition. The conference reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to supporting the Government of India’s vision of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030 while strengthening energy security and advancing sustainable economic growth.

Thiru CTR Nirmal Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Energy Resources & Law, Government of Tamil Nadu, graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest alongside distinguished industry leaders. Speaking at the inaugural session, Mr. Kumar said: “Tamil Nadu is developing a transparent online system for renewable energy applications and will open solar and wind projects in a calibrated manner after completing load flow studies across the state. The State Government was reviewing renewable energy policies, assessing transmission capacity, removing third-party blockages, and creating a transparent system for genuine investors.”

Mr. Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman, CII–Sohrabji Godrej GBC and Chairman & Managing Director, Godrej & Boyce, in his special address, noted: “Green Business Centre of CII, now 25 years old, had done remarkable work in energy efficiency, green buildings, green company ratings, and green product ratings, making a significant difference to Indian industry.”

Highlighting the sectoral focus, Mr. Ramesh Kymal, Chairman, Renewable Energy Council, CII–Sohrabji Godrej GBC, stated: “Green Power has become one of the country’s leading platforms for deliberations on renewable energy over the past 25 years, with India’s non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity having reached 288 GW, including 154 GW of solar, 56 GW of wind, 51 GW of hydro, 8 GW of nuclear, and the rest from other renewable energy sources.”

Mr. Ravichandran Purushothaman, Chairman, CII Southern Region and President, Danfoss India, said: “Energy competitiveness will be central to the growth of MSMEs and manufacturing in Tamil Nadu and Southern India.” He further suggested, “A 40 percent discount during daytime and a 40 percent premium during evening peak hours must be considered while the state should focus on wind repowering, factory rooftop solar, agriculture solarization, heat pumps, and industrial electrification also.”

Mr. Sujoy Ghosh, Co-Chairman, Renewable Energy Council, CII–Sohrabji GBC and VP & Country MD – India, First Solar, said: “Over the past two and a half decades, the deliberations at Green Power had reaffirmed the need for standardization, transparency, R&D, greening the grid, structural reforms, MSME competitiveness, repowering, rooftop solarization, and agriculture solarization as key priorities for the renewable energy sector.”

The inaugural session featured launch of publication, “Best Practices for Ground Mounted Solar and Wind Plants” a bulletin collating best practices from 43 solar, wind, hybrid, and module manufacturing plants that participated in the CII Performance Excellence competition and the release of a coffee table book showcasing some of the best green buildings in the country.

The two-day conference will feature technical sessions, expert deliberations, and industry interactions focused on accelerating the transition to clean energy. It also features the 8th Edition of the CII Performance Excellence Awards for Solar, Wind and Hybrid Power Plants where winners will be honoured for demonstrating excellence in operational performance, reliability, and continuous improvement.

The concurrent exposition showcased the latest technologies, products, and solutions from leading renewable energy companies, providing participants with insights into emerging innovations and market trends.
