The Founding Chair of the Unique Indentification Authority of India ( UIDAI ) Nandan Nilekani while delivering the 43rd Palkhivala Memorial Lecture in Chennai said simplification of technology with a purpose can help the public at large to access legal services with a click of the button. Citing the tremendous achievement of 350 million people who can make or using the QR code to make payments in a flash.
Likewise, he added that the Legal fraternity would benefit greatly by absorbing the technology available and making use of it regularly. The way to do this is not to automate individual tasks. You can start by taking a couple of high volume repetitive case types and automate them fully. Two case types being looked are cheque bounce and motor vehicle disputes, They constitute around 20% of all all cases pending. Another interesting development is ODR – Online dispute resolution which is gaining good traction with the public.
Nilekani ended by saying the future of India is bright with many young minds adding value to the strategic thinking process with a long term focus. He quoted what Palkhivala said 50 years ago and everything which he saw then is becoming a reality today. That was the genius of the man, The experience of justice for all is possible provided it is done in a sustainable way.
Arvind P Datar, Managing Trustee welcomed the gathering & R Anand, Trustee proposed a vote of thanks.
