CTTE College Hosts Expert Talk on Evolving Costing Methods

The Department of Corporate Secretaryship at Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women hosted an expert lecture titled “Evolving Costing Methods” to equip students with updated knowledge on dynamic cost accounting strategies and their practical application in modern business environments. The event was held on campus and attended by faculty members and undergraduate students of commerce-related disciplines.

The guest speaker for the session was CA. K. Hariharan, a distinguished Chartered Accountant, Founder of Premier Academy, and Principal Consultant at M/s. K. Hariharan and Associates. With over three decades of experience in consulting, education, and industry advisory services, CA. Hariharan brought real-world expertise into the classroom. He emphasized the growing need for adaptive costing models in response to global competition, technological change, and evolving consumer expectations.

The session opened with a brief overview of traditional costing systems such as job costing, batch costing, and process costing. CA. Hariharan then transitioned into the discussion of advanced methodologies including Activity-Based Costing (ABC), Target Costing, Life Cycle Costing, and Kaizen Costing. He illustrated how these methods enable companies to streamline operations, identify cost drivers, and make data-informed managerial decisions.

Interactive by design, the talk encouraged students to think critically about the application of costing tools in diverse industries ranging from manufacturing and IT to logistics and service sectors. Real-life scenarios and business case studies were shared, enabling students to grasp the strategic significance of modern cost systems.

“Understanding evolving costing practices is not just an academic exercise; it’s a business imperative,” said CA. Hariharan. “Today’s professionals must align cost analysis with value creation and strategic planning.”

Students appreciated the session’s practical relevance and clarity. Many expressed that the talk helped demystify complex costing concepts and gave them a competitive edge in their professional preparation.

Faculty members noted that such expert-led engagements are crucial for bridging the gap between curriculum and industry expectations. The Department of Corporate Secretaryship reaffirmed its commitment to fostering industry-academia collaborationexperiential learning, and value-based professional education.

This initiative is part of CTTE College’s broader academic vision to prepare students not only for examinations but also for leadership in the business world. Through lectures, workshops, and interactive dialogues with professionals, the institution continues to provide platforms that promote critical thinking, real-world readiness, and lifelong learning.
