The Rotary Club of Adyar in association with Fourrts India Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. has donated a Mobile Oral Cancer Care Bus worth Rs.60 lakhs to Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital. It was inaugurated by the Chancellor Mr. V.R. Venkataachalam in the presence of Dr. S.V. Veeramani, Chairman & Managing Director, Fourrts & Mr. D. Devendran, District Governor, Rotary Club of Adyar.
This initiative aims to strengthen early detection and screening for oral cancer by taking preventive healthcare services directly to communities particularly in underserved and high-risk areas. The mobile unit is equipped with VELscope oral fluorescence imaging device and facilities for microscopic examination. Sri Ramachandra Dental College & Hospital with comprehensive facilities for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) and oral cancers. Individuals identified with suspicious lesions during screening camps will undergo brush biopsy and referred to the hospital for definitive diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment.
The mobile screening bus will enable the institution to expand screening camps, awareness programmes and tobacco cessation initiatives. By taking oral cancer screening directly to the community and combining advanced screening technologies will improve early detection, facilitate timely treatment and ultimately reduce the burden of oral cancer.
