
Smt. D. Thilagavathy, an officer of the Indian Telecommunication Service (ITS) 1989 batch, has assumed the post of Chief General Manager, BSNL Chennai Telephones, as of 6th April 2026. A B.Tech. graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy, she began her career with the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) in 1990 for a short period.
Subsequently, she joined the Department of Telecommunications as an Assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom (ADET) in Chennai Telephones, where she played a significant role in the installation and commissioning of New Technology Telecom Switching Systems.
Throughout her career, she has held various leadership positions, including serving as Deputy General Manager in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where she managed key projects With vast experience in administration, installation, and maintenance of telecom systems, she later served as Principal General Manager for Pondicherry. In that role, she contributed extensively to the provisioning of telecom services and played a pivotal role in the successful launching of Indigenous 4G services.
Her appointment as Chief General Manager, Chennai Telephones is now , where she will lead the organization’s strategic growth and infrastructure development in Chennai.
