Acclaimed Tamil writer and author Nanjil Nadan has been honoured with Ki. Ra. Award for the year 2024. The award was instituted by Vijaya Readers Circle and Sakthi Masala Foundation in honour of Ki. Rajanarayanan, a renowned folklorist known for his stories centered on the people and the folklores of ‘karisal kaadu’, the drought-stricken region of Kovilpatti.
Sakthi Masala Group has been honouring writers with awards and cash prizes for the past four years to recognise their outstanding contributions to the world of literature and support their creative endeavours. The 2024 award and the cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs was presented to Nanjil Nadar in a grand ceremony held at Coimbatore recently.
The esteemed Supreme Court Judge, Mr. R. Mahadevan, presented the Ki. Ra. Award to Mr. Nanjil Nadan. In his speech, the judge remarked, “Nanjil Nadan has offered profound insights to the Tamil community through his works and his works need to be celebrated, as they vividly portray the course of society through his narratives.”
Mr. M. Velayudham of Vijaya Publications delivered the welcome address at the award distribution function. The founders of Sakthi Masala, Dr. P.C. Duraisamy and Mrs. Dr.Santhi Duraisamy, along with writer Mr. Atmarthi, provided their felicitation addresses.
Earlier, Justice R. Mahadevan launched the novel ‘Oorundu Kaani Illen’ written by Nanjil Nadan. The event witnessed the presence of Senthilkumar Duraisamy and distinguished guests from various fields including Ms. Pushpa Mahadevan, retired IAS officer Mr. Rajendran, poets Kavithasan and Ravi Subramaniam, Dr. Bhaktavatsalam, Chairman of KG Hospital, Mr. Prabhakaran son of Ki. Ra., and Mr. Chidambaram of Vijaya Publications, Nanjil Nadan’s spouse Ms. Sandhiya and Dr. G. Sivaraman also graced the occasion.
