Adani Foundation organized a coastal cleanup drive to mark the occasion of Coastal Cleanup Day on 17th September 2022. The cleanup drive was undertaken to convey the message of “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar”. A team from Kattupalli Port consisting of HODs along with over 60 volunteers from various departments participated in the cleanup drive held at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai. The team collected 14 bags (Approximately 80-90Kg) of waste materials such as plastics, glass, net, and other litter from the beach. The volunteers handed over the collected waste to the Greater Chennai Corporation for further segregation and recycling.
A brief session was also conducted for the volunteers explaining the types of wastes collected during cleanup and how each kind affects the marine environment adversely. The team also took a pledge to spread awareness on the importance of the cleanliness of beaches.
Every year International Coastal Cleanup Day is organized on the third Saturday of September across the world. The day aims at bringing cleanliness to nature by creating awareness about increasing pollution on beaches around the world.
