“Students should equip themselves with skills and knowledge to succeed”

Kattankulathur:

“Skills and knowledge are essential for sustaining a career in today’s rapidly changing job market,” said Dr. T. G. Sitharam, Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), during the 20th Convocation of SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) in Kattankulathur. A total of 8,438 students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology received their degrees on this momentous occasion.

Addressing a large gathering of students and parents, he emphasised that this moment signifies years of hard work and perseverance. “Regardless of your field of study, staying updated on digital transformations is crucial for remaining relevant in the job market,” he stated.

Sitharam highlighted the importance of adaptive learning, as outlined in the New Education Policy (NEP). “While degrees are important, the skills you acquire during your education will be your foundation in this disruptive world.”

He noted that India is the third-largest startup ecosystem globally, attributing this success to the youth. “More than 60% of these startups come from students in second- and third-tier colleges, not just IITs. We are the youngest nation in the world, and we must leverage this demographic for our economic growth.”

Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, Founder Chancellor of SRMIST, presided over the convocation. Vice Chancellor Professor C. Muthamizhchelvan delivered the welcome address and presented the annual report.

Among those present were Pro Chancellor (Administration) Dr. Ravi Pachamuthu, Pro Chancellor (Academics) Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Co-Chairman of the SRM Group of Institutions Mr. S. Niranjan, Pro Vice Chancellor (MHS) In-charge Dr. Nitin M. Nagarkar, Registrar Dr. S. Ponnusamy, Controller of Examinations Dr. K. Gunasekaran, and UGC Nominee (Finance Committee) Commander V. K.
