Russian Universities Fully Meet NMC’s Latest Criteria for MBBS Courses

Chennai, June 2023

Russia fully meets the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) latest criteria, meant for recognising MBBS courses offered by foreign medical universities. The NMC’s recognition of their degrees is indispensable for Indian students who complete their education in Russian universities to practice medicine in their home country.

One notable requirement is that the MBBS courses must be taught exclusively in English. The courses should span a duration of 54 months, with 12 months dedicated to integrated clinical training across 12 specific subjects. Importantly, the degree awarded should make the Indian students eligible for a license to practice medicine in that country.

Top Russian medical universities are set to offer over 5000 medical seats to Indian students in the academic year 2023-24. In order to meet the growing demand, the second edition of the All-India Russian Education Fair 2023, is being organised across Tamil Nadu starting from Chennai, on June 17 and 18, 2023 at Russian Cultural Centre. The Fair will be held in Madurai on June 20 at The Madurai Residency Hotel; Trichy on June 21 at Femina Hotel; Salem on June 22 at GRT Hotel Zibe, and at Coimbatore on June 23 at The Grand Regent. The event will feature spot admissions for the MBBS as well as engineering and technology courses. For details about the programs and fair, students can call: 9282221221/ 9940199883.

The universities participating in the Education Fair include: Volgograd State Medical University, Kazan State Medical University, Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, National Research Nuclear University ‘MEPhI’, Kursk State Medical University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and Higher School of Economics.

Making these announcements at a media conference here today, senior government and university officials from Russia said that Russia continues to be the top choice for Indian students seeking medical education abroad, as Russian universities proactively adhere to the changing norms and guidelines of India’s NMC to ensure that their MBBS programs are well recognised in India. Additionally, the universities have also taken adequate measures and ensured the safety of Indian students studying in Russia, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and the tumultuous geopolitical situations involving Ukraine.

Indian students who have cleared the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and who have passed the higher secondary school exam or its equivalent can apply for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in medicine in Russia. Tamil medium students can also apply. There are no pre-qualifying exams like CET, IELTS, etc. for admissions to universities in Russia.

Depending upon the university, and the place of study, the course fee can range from US$ 3500 to US$ 6000 per year for courses in English medium. However, as in the past, the Russian Government’s annual Scholarship Program will offer 100 grants to Indian students this year as well. This will enable them to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, Specialist, and Postgraduate Programs in Russia’s leading universities free of cost, announced higher government and university officials from Russia.

Students can provide their valid credentials and secure on-the-spot admissions for their preferred Bachelor’s and Post-graduate degree programs at All India Russian Education Fair 2023. The UG and PG courses for the 2023-24 academic year are scheduled to commence from September, 2023.
