ROTARY CLUB OF AMBATTUR HOSTS FREE CANCER SCREENING & AWARENESS PROGRAM

The Rotary Club of Ambattur, led by Rtn. AjithaBalan, Past President and Chairman of Women’s Health, conducted its fourth cancer screening and awareness program at the NGO Health Center in Chennai Central. The event aimed to create awareness about oral, breast, and cervical cancer among women in the community, emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention.

RtnAjitha Balan stated, “Our goal is to empower women with knowledge about cancer screening and prevention. Cervical cancer, in particular, is preventable in its early stages, and vaccination is also available. We urge all women to undergo regular screening.”

Chief Guest Rtn N.S. Saravanan  District Governor  stated that “I am thrilled to be part of this incredible initiative by the Rotary Club. I would like to commend the team for their tireless efforts in spreading awareness about cancer screening. As we all know, screening is crucial in detecting cancer at an early stage, making treatment more effective and increasing survival rates. I urge each and every one of you to undergo regular screenings and encourage your loved ones to do the same. Together, let us create a society where cancer awareness and prevention are a top priority.” PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.

The event featured a keynote address by Dr. Saritha,Oncologist, who shared valuable insights on breast and cervical cancer. The session included interactive elements, such as self-examination exercises, to promote awareness in prevention and empowerment.

Dr Buvaneswari, Infertility specialist, Gynaecologist shared about a crucial topic Cervical and Breast cancer awareness that affects us all. As a gynaecologist and infertility specialist, I have seen first-hand devastating impact of these diseases haveimpacts on individuals, families, and communities. However, I have also seen the power of awareness, education, and early detection in saving lives and improving outcomes.

So, let us take this opportunity to empower ourselves and each other with knowledge. Let us learn about the risk factors, symptoms, and screening options for cervical and breast cancer. Let us encourage our mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends to prioritize their health and get regular check-ups. Together, we can break down the stigma and silence surrounding these diseases and create a supportive community that promotes health, wellness, and resilience.
