Chennai, August 28, 2022: TCL or Tamil Nadu Cycling League is the first of its kind cycling league in Tamil Nadu. The prestigious league is proudly presented by Tamil Nadu Cycling Association and Cycle Federation of India (CFI). The initiative is sponsored by Nippon Paints and RP7.
The league comprises 8 teams from 8 districts in Tamil Nadu. Capital city Chennai has 2 teams – Namma Chennai Riders and Madras Pro Racers, Coimbatore- Kovai Pedals, Madurai – Madurai Mass Riders, Trichy- Trichy Rock Fort, Salem – Salem Super Riders, Kanyakumari – Kumari Riders and Vellore- Rancycers.
Coimbatore based team Kovai Pedals is owned by Brand Blitz, a Brand Consulting Company. The company’s belief is that cycling is not just a fitness or transportation tool but has the capability to transform into an exciting sport. Kovai Pedals is a refreshingly young team with 14 members of which 4 riders are under 18. The team also benefits from two national players Kesavaraj and Purushothaman. Elite National category player Sreenath is the team’s captain. Ultra cyclist Prashant is the Vice Captain.
Brand Blitz’s Director Dr. JP Leelaram is a cycle enthusiast and has a keen interest in cycling as a sport and that motivated him in procuring Kovai Pedals team. He considers TCL as a wonderful opportunity to benefit the underprivileged section and nurture the wholesome sport in its nascent stages.
TCL is held in two phases and the first phase was held in Chennai over the weekend. Kovai Pedals team ranked 7 in the Qualifiers held on Saturday and in the Race held today (August 28, 2022), they won the third place behind Rancycers and Madras Pro Racers. The MVP (Most Valued Player) of the Race was Mownishwaran who helped seal the victory. The second phase will be conducted in Coimbatore soon.
