Chennai, September 2023: Phoenix Marketcity, one of the premium malls in Chennai, had book enthusiasts come together for a one-of-a-kind social cause. ‘Karpi’ (Tamil – meaning ‘Teach’ in English) a week-long book donation campaign was organized by the Rotary Club of Ambattur along with Vels Group, for the public to freely donate books for the underprivileged children. The culmination of this notable drive was organized at Phoenix’s central atrium where Chennaites from far and wide came over the weekend to drop off books in large numbers and be a part of this noteworthy cause. The campaign was also acclaimed by the India Book of Records as the ‘Largest Book Donation Drive’, as more than 1lakh books were successfully collected.
The books that were collected over the week will be categorized and handed over to underprivileged children of government schools and colleges, to further emphasize on the importance of education equally for all. As part of the facilitation program by India Book of Records, dignitaries like Rotary, Sanjana David Varma, Project Secretary – KARPI, Rotarian flight Lieutenant, Ramesh, President, Rotary Club of Ambattur, Dr Preetha Ganesh, VP Vels Group of Institutions, Rotarian Vinod Saraogi, District Governor Nominee, Rotarian Dr David Samson, Project Chairman – KARPI, were also present at the venue. The two-day event had fun-filled activities like games, dance performances and other entertainment acts to make this unique, meaningful book donation drive a success and an inspiration to the visitors of the mall.
