Forging Global Excellence with Saveetha Dental College Partners with Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh

Chennai, 21st August 2024: Saveetha Dental College (SDC) under Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), Chennai, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), United Kingdom. This historic agreement establishes SDC as the first center in India recognized by RCSEd to conduct the prestigious Faculty of Dental Surgery examinations in Chennai, offering significant benefits to dental trainees and consultants across the region.

The partnership underscores the mutual commitment of RCSEdand SDC to advancing the highest standards of dental practice and patient safety through rigorous education, training, assessment, and accreditation. RCSEd, the world’s oldest surgical Royal College, founded in 1505, boasts a rich legacy of over five centuries in surgical excellence, with a prestigious network of over 32,000 professionals across 140 countries. Its dedication to upholding global standards in all specialties and regions is unmatched.

Saveetha Dental College, founded in 1988 by the Saveetha Medical and Educational Trust under the visionary leadership of Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, has always aimed to elevate educational standards through modernized curricula, reformed examinations, and a strong emphasis on research. SIMATS, initially established as Saveetha University in 2005, has since become a global leader in dental education. The institution is renowned for its innovative curriculum, which uniquely integrates the best of Eastern and Western educational practices, creating a holistic learning environment that produces highly skilled dental professionals.

This commitment to academic excellence is reflected in SDC’s consistent top ranking in the 2024 MHRD NIRF Rankings, where it achieved first place among all government and private universities for the third consecutive year. Additionally, SIMATS secured an impressive 24th position in the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Discipline in Dentistry, marking the highest rank for any Indian institution in this category also for the third year in a row.

Both RCSEd and SDC share a profound commitment to enhancing dental education and practice standards. Through their collaborative efforts in education, training, assessment, and accreditation, these institutions are dedicated to ensuring that dental professionals are equipped to provide the highest quality of care to patients worldwide. This partnership highlights the importance of continuous innovation and excellence in dental education, benefiting professionals and the communities they serve.

Having Saveetha as an examination center will significantly benefit students across India and neighboring countries, making it more cost-effective and convenient compared to traveling to the UK or Dubai. This local accessibility will enable more candidates to pursue their qualifications without the added financial burden and logistical challenges of international travel. The examination process can be challenging for students to navigate on their own. To ease this, students will receive comprehensive training and guidance from renowned faculty in the field. This support will simplify the entire process and provide students with a clear understanding of the exam requirements at Saveetha.

Faculty of Dental Surgery exams offer several significant benefits for dental professionals: Global Recognition, Advanced Knowledge and Skills, Career Advancement, Enhanced Professional Development, Pathway to Further Specialization, Increased Employability, Networking Opportunities, Patient Trust and Confidence. The credential signals to patients that the dental professional has undergone rigorous assessment and meets high standards of practice, thereby enhancing patient trust and confidence.

The signing ceremony was graced by Dr. Grant McIntyre, Dean; Dr. William S. McLaughlin, Vice Dean; and Dr. Iain Forster-Smith, Director of Examinations from RCSEd. Representing SIMATS were Dr. N.M. Veeraiyan, Founder and Chancellor;  Prof. Dr. Sheeja Varghese, Registrar; Prof. Dr. S. Aravind Kumar, Dean, SDC;  Prof. Dr. Sindhu Ramesh and Ambassadors of Royal college Dr. Vinay Sivagange, Dr. Chetan Jeyade, and Dr. V. Gopi Krishna.
