Chennai, October 15, 2023: To commemorate Lions International World Service Day, Lions International District 324 K today organised CHENNAI PLOGATHON 2023 in Chennai to raise awareness about litter reduction and the importance of eliminating single-use plastics set and a new world record. Around 11,000 including school and college students, NSS, Scouts and Guides, NGOs, and corporate volunteers collected litter at the Pattanipakkam Beach and Besant Nagar Beach and promoted the ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastics’ campaign. Their enthusiastic participation underscored the potential for collective action to bring about meaningful change.
In a momentous occasion, the CHENNAI PLOGATHON 2023 was led by District Governor PMJF Ln Rajesh N Dave and the District chairperson Ln Manivanan in the presence of esteemed guests Chennai Mayor Mrs. Priya, Mylapore MLA Tha. Valu and Chief Commissioner of the Chennai Corporation, Dr. Radhakrishnan to highlight the importance of environmental conservation.
The CHENNAI PLOGATHON 2023 is a monumental step towards a cleaner, greener Chennai, and it emphasizes the importance of unity in addressing environmental issues. The central theme of the event was to make Chennai litter-free and curb the use of single-use plastics. By encouraging responsible waste disposal and the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives, the Lions International District 324 K aims to transform Chennai into a role model for urban sustainability. To commemorate 92nd birthday of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, lions are accomplishing his vision of sustainability a clear clean environment.
The event also witnessed the participation of distinguished Lions International members, including Past International Director Ln K G Ramakrishnamurthy, Past International Director Ln R Sampath, FVDG Ln Murugesh, SVDG Ln Murugan, PDG Ln Dr. N R Dave, PDG Ln N R Dhanapalan, and PDG Ln. Johnny. Their commitment to this cause reflects the Lions Club’s dedication to community service and making a positive impact on the world.
