Apollo Spectra Hospital, Chennai organizes Walkathon


Chennai, 27th March 2022: For a Healthier and Better Chennai, Apollo Spectra Hospital, Chennai, in collaboration with Swastya-Gastro & Weight Loss Centre Association, Chennai organized a walkathon today to promote the need for regular walking and exercising and the importance of leading an obesity-free lifestyle.

The event was flagged off at 6:30 AM from Besant Nagar (Police booth) by Mrs. Ananda Gomathy Murugesan, Advocate, Madras High Court in the presence of Dr. Neha Shah, Bariatric Surgeon Specialist, Apollo Spectra Hospitals, Chennai, along with a team of Apollo Spectra doctors, other healthcare professionals, and the general public.

With over 100 participants, the walkathon covered the stretch from Besant Nagar police booth to Annai Velankanni Church, Besant Nagar, and back to Besant Nagar police booth. The walk inspired refreshing energy amongst the public, helping the cause of spreading awareness about the need to swear by a healthy lifestyle.

As part of the walkathon, Apollo Spectra Hospital, Chennai also provided free height, weight, and BMI checkups to the participants and attendees.

A healthy lifestyle is essential to minimise the incidence of obesity. Having obesity risks the chances of developing diabetes and heart diseases. So, it is very important to start exercising every day. Hence, we want to make sure that the people are aware of the need of maintaining an obesity-free lifestyle along with regular exercise. I would like to thank Mrs. Ananda Gomathy and everyone including the doctors and the public who has joined us this morning by being part of the walkathon to make Chennai healthier and better” said Dr. Neha Shah, Bariatric Surgeon Specialist, Apollo Spectra Hospitals, Chennai.

The primary purpose of the walkathon event was to spread awareness about how obesity is a silent killer and raises the risk of many other health issues. With most professionals returning to the office, the stress of commuting to work and engaging in work commitments with utmost efficiency may leave them with little time to focus on their health. Hence, it is essential to reiterate the importance of regular walks and daily exercise regime to ensure that Healthier Chennai is the way to a Better Chennai.
