The Post Graduate Department of Commerce recently hosted an International Conference on the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Commerce on October 16, 2024. The event featured notable speakers who shared valuable insights on the impact of AI in various areas of commerce. Keynote speakers included Thiru L. Palamalai, Managing Trustee and Correspondent of CTTE Trust, who discussed AI’s applications in customer segmentation and inventory management. Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal of CTTE College for Women, emphasized the importance of skill development through industry collaborations. Ms. Prabha Rajan highlighted how AI is making technology accessible for small businesses, while Mr. John Rex Thangadurai, Vice President of TrueTechSolutions in Chennai, focused on bridging the skills gap and emerging technologies like quantum technology. Plenary Speaker Ms. CS Ritu Randhar, Vice President of Sudharshan Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd in Indore, addressed how AI can enhance small business operations. Mrs. N. Marian Usha Rani, Head Mistress of Bentick Higher Secondary School in Chennai, introduced the term “Genovists,” derived from her coined term “genovative” combined with “nexvisit.” Dr. Vidya Suresh, Assistant Professor at the College of Banking and Financial Studies in Muscat, presented a compelling case study to the audience. With a total of 85 papers submitted, 45 were presented online, and four received awards for Best Paper Presentation. The conference highlighted AI’s transformative potential in commerce and underscored the critical need for education and adaptation in this rapidly evolving field. Overall, it served as a significant platform for exchanging knowledge and insights on the role of AI in commerce.
