Chennai, 15 December 2025: Vedanta Group Chairman Mr. Anil Agarwal has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri for announcing new rules under the amended legislation, widely regarded as one of the most significant reforms in the history of India’s oil and gas sector.
Mr. Agarwal stated that India possesses vast oil and gas resources, and that the global energy industry had been closely watching this landmark announcement. He described the reform as a decisive step that could transform India’s energy landscape.
In a post on social media platform X, Mr. Agarwal noted that the new policy framework would significantly enhance India’s ability to produce oil and gas at some of the lowest costs in the world. He emphasized that the benefits of these reforms would flow directly to the general public, particularly to the poor and middle-class households.
He further highlighted that the reforms would encourage entrepreneurs, start-ups, and even university students to participate in exploration and discovery activities with relatively small investments, thereby fostering innovation and broad-based participation in the sector.
Drawing a comparison with the United States, Mr. Agarwal recalled that the country once imported nearly half of its energy requirements. Through open and enabling policies, the U.S. was able to boost domestic production and eventually achieve energy self-sufficiency. He noted that nearly 20,000 companies and individuals were engaged in exploration activities in the U.S., underscoring the power of liberal and transparent policies.
“Never in my lifetime did I imagine witnessing such a transformational change,” Mr. Agarwal remarked.
He stressed that India’s energy security represents both a major challenge and a tremendous opportunity. With the right policy support, he expressed confidence that at least 50 percent of India’s energy requirements could be met through domestic production.
