Capsule Course on Conduits for Electrical Installations as per IS 9537 held at BIS Chennai

Chennai, December 2025: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, continues its efforts to strengthen quality consciousness among industry through regular capacity-building programmes. As part of its Capsule Course initiative, BIS Chennai organised a two-day training programme on Conduits for Electrical Installations as per IS 9537 on 9 & 10 December 2025 at its Southern Regional Office, Chennai, exclusively for Quality Control Personnel from the industry.

The programme witnessed active participation from industry representatives, who were trained on the requirements, testing parameters and conformity assessment procedures for conduits used in electrical installations. The objective of the Capsule Course was to enhance participants’ understanding of the Indian Standard IS 9537, ensuring that manufacturers and industry professionals are equipped to meet quality and safety requirements in line with national standards.

The programme commenced with a Welcome Address and Programme Objectives by Shri       S.D. Dayanand, Scientist-F / Senior Director & Head, CNBO, who highlighted BIS’s continuous initiatives to empower its stakeholders with updated technical knowledge and ensure seamless implementation of standards. He emphasized that the Capsule Course is designed to provide focused, practical insights that help industries strengthen compliance and enhance consumer safety.

The technical sessions on both days were conducted by Shri Sreejith Mohan J, Scientist-D / Joint Director, CNBO, who elaborated on the Indian Standard and the Product Manual. The sessions also covered key processes such as Grant, Inclusion, Renewal, Operation, Deferment, Expiry, and Dormancy of BIS licences, along with important BIS features relevant to product certification. The first day concluded with an interactive discussion and clarification session, allowing participants to engage directly with the faculty on technical and procedural aspects.

On the second day, the participants were taken for a practical demonstration at the BIS Southern Regional Laboratory (SRL), where testing methodologies for critical parameters under IS 9537 were demonstrated. This hands-on exposure enabled participants to understand laboratory testing procedures and compliance requirements in a real-time environment.

The course concluded with a feedback session, where participants appreciated the detailed and practical approach adopted during the training, and certificates were presented to all participants.
