In celebration of World Environment Day, Karur Vysya Bank (KVB), in collaboration with Madras University and its NGO partner Communitree, completed a tree plantation drive of 10,000 native saplings across the university campus. The initiative reinforces KVB’s deep-rooted commitment to sustainability and community-led environmental action. It aims to enhance the region’s green cover and contribute to long-term biodiversity by developing a dense, self-sustaining urban forest ecosystem.
Held at the historic University of Madras campus, the event drew enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, KVB employees, Communitree volunteers, and other community members. The drive forms part of KVB’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda focused on climate action, ecological restoration, and community development.
Speaking at the launch event, Mr. B. Ramesh Babu, Managing Director & CEO of Karur Vysya Bank, said:“World Environment Day reminds us of our shared duty to protect and preserve our planet. At Karur Vysya Bank, we are proud to mark this day by planting 10,000 trees in partnership with Madras University. It is a symbolic and practical step toward building a greener, healthier future for generations to come.”
Adding to this, Professor S. Elumalai, Registrar of Madras University, said:“This collaboration with Karur Vysya Bank is a meaningful stride toward ecological responsibility. Universities are not just centres of learning, but also spaces where values are cultivated. Through this plantation drive, we are empowering our students to become conscious custodians of the environment.”
The campaign aligns with the 2025 World Environment Day theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience,” reflecting KVB’s continued focus on long-term, sustainable ecological impact.
