Chennai, December, 2024: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham recently organized a workshop on “Cultural Ecology of Environment and Climate Change: Learning from the Past for a Sustainable Future”, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST).
The event was presided by Swami Vinayamritananda Puri, Admin Director, Shri I. B. Manikantan and Dr. V. Jaya Kumar, Principal, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Chennai, coordinated by Dr. K. R. Priya and Dr. P. P. Nikhil Raj, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore delivered the keynote address.
The workshop provided a platform for experts, scholars, and participants to discuss how cultural practices and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) can address modern environmental challenges. Sessions highlighted the value of integrating Indigenous Knowledge Systems with contemporary scientific approaches to develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
Interactive workshops encouraged knowledge-sharing and collaborative problem-solving, offering fresh perspectives on how cultural ecology can play a critical role in tackling climate change. The event concluded with a thought-provoking discussion on cultural sustainability and the importance of partnerships and community engagement in climate action.
This initiative is part of Amrita’s ongoing efforts to address global challenges by integrating traditional knowledge systems with modern science to create sustainable solutions.
