Chennai, October 13, 2023: Gleneagles Global Health City, a leading multi-Speciality quaternary healthcare centre in Chennai, will celebrate the Global Handwashing Day with children. A 4-day camp from October 13, 2023, to October 17, 2023, will train 2,000 students from both private and government schools in the city on proper hand washing. The Global Handwashing Day is observed worldwide on October 15. This year’s theme is “Clean hands are in reach,” and highlights how washing hands regularly with soap and water is an effective way to prevent diseases and lead a healthy life.
On the first day, the nursing team of Gleneagles Global Health City visited the Vidya Matric Hr Sec School and Sai Ram Leo Muthu Public School in Medavakkam and taught the school children’s on how to wash their hands before having food as dirty hands are the root cause of various diseases. The nursing team will visit 10 schools in Chennai Suburb’s in next four days to educate the students on the importance of handwashing and will train students on handwashing techniques.
“Very few people wash their hands often enough. If the practice of hand washing is inculcated in children, it can prevent diseases like diarrhoea and other water-related illnesses. All schools should have handwashing facilities. It is important to wash your hands before and after eating food, after using the restroom, sneezing or coughing,” said Dr Subramanian Swaminathan, Director- Infectious Diseases and Infection Control, Gleneagles Global Health City
