Chennai / Hyderabad, June 17, 2026: In a landmark achievement in its 109-year legacy of academic excellence, Osmania University, Hyderabad, has become the first university in India to be awarded four internationally recognized ISO Management System Certifications simultaneously by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India.
The Certificates of Grant of Licence were formally presented at a ceremony held at the Senate Hall, Administrative Building, Osmania University, by Shri Sandeep Kumar Kanogia, Scientist-F and Deputy Director General (Southern Region), Bureau of Indian Standards, in the presence of senior BIS officials and University authorities.
The certifications awarded to Osmania University are:
• IS ISO 21001:2018 – Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS)
• IS ISO 14001:2015 – Environmental Management System (EMS)
• IS ISO 50001:2018 – Energy Management System (EnMS)
• IS ISO 22000:2018 – Food Safety Management System (FSMS)
The certifications were granted following comprehensive assessment and verification by BIS of the University’s management systems and processes. The achievement reflects Osmania University’s commitment to quality education, environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, food safety and adherence to globally accepted management practices.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Sandeep Kumar Kanogia congratulated Osmania University on the historic accomplishment and stated, “Internationally recognized ISO certifications provide educational institutions with a structured framework for quality, transparency, accountability and continual improvement. They enhance institutional credibility, strengthen stakeholder confidence and help universities benchmark themselves against global best practices. Such certifications are not merely recognitions, but tools for sustained excellence and future readiness.”
The event was also graced by Shri G. Venkatanarayanan, Scientist-E and Director, Management Systems Certification Oversight Services (South), BIS, and Shri Rajpal, Scientist-E and Management System Certification Officer, BIS, who play key roles in Management Systems Certification activities of BIS.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri G. Venkatanarayanan said, “The grant of these certifications follows a rigorous and independent evaluation process involving assessment of institutional policies, operational procedures, risk-based planning, internal audits, management reviews, corrective actions and continual improvement mechanisms. Osmania University has demonstrated exemplary commitment in aligning its academic and administrative functions with globally recognized standards. Securing four ISO certifications simultaneously is a prestigious achievement that reflects a strong culture of quality, sustainability and institutional excellence.”
Shri Rajpal highlighted the significance of management system certification and stated, “The ISO certifications offered by BIS provide organizations with internationally accepted frameworks to improve governance, optimize resources, enhance stakeholder satisfaction and drive continual improvement. These standards support sustainable growth and help organizations achieve long-term operational excellence.”
Presiding over the function, Sr. Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, described the achievement as a historic milestone and remarked, “While Osmania University proudly carries a legacy spanning more than a century, we remain committed to embracing contemporary global standards and best practices. These certifications reaffirm our commitment to academic excellence, sustainability and stakeholder-centric governance, and strengthen our resolve to remain a future-ready and globally competitive institution.”
Prof. B. Sireesha, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), highlighted the extensive groundwork undertaken by the University towards achieving the certifications, while Prof. G. Naresh Reddy, Registrar, observed that the accomplishment sets a benchmark for excellence in higher education governance in the country.
The ceremony witnessed participation from Principals, Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors of Centres, faculty members, administrative staff, research scholars and students, marking a significant milestone in Osmania University’s pursuit of global standards and institutional excellence.
