Dr. Ibrahim Dincer at the 2nd International Green Energy Mobility Conference, SRMIST

The Department of Automobile Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Kattankulathur, inaugurated the 2nd International Green Energy Mobility Conference (IGEM 2026), bringing together global experts, researchers, and industry leaders to deliberate on sustainable energy solutions and the future of mobility.

Dr. Ibrahim Dincer, Professor, Ontario Tech University, Canada, International Authority in Sustainable Energy Systems, highlighted the urgent need to transition towards cleaner energy alternatives, particularly in the transportation sector, which contributes significantly to global carbon emissions. He emphasized hydrogen as a key fuel of the future and underscored the importance of collaborative platforms like IGEM in accelerating innovation through meaningful knowledge exchange.

Adding an international perspective, Dr. Imre M. Szilágyi, Professor at the University of Miskolc, Hungary, emphasized the role of engineering in improving quality of life through sustainable and efficient solutions. He also highlighted the importance of energy storage, global collaboration, and academic mobility in advancing green energy research.

Dr. M. Leenus Jesu Martin, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, emphasized the growing global relevance of green energy and the need for collaborative, interdisciplinary research.

He highlighted SRMIST’s active efforts in advancing research across key domains such as hydrogen energy, solar power, and electric mobility, aiming to strengthen global research impact and visibility.

Notably, he spoke about the potential of hydrogen as a clean fuel for everyday applications, including home cooking, showcasing a future where sustainable energy becomes part of daily life.

Offering insights on the institution’s research strengths, Dr. Napoleon Bernard Shaw, Dean – Directorate of Research, SRMIST, remarked, “With a strong ecosystem of researchers and significant national-level funding in energy domains, SRMIST is committed to advancing impactful research in hydrogen and sustainable technologies that align with India’s vision of becoming a global green energy hub.” He further highlighted the university’s extensive research output, global collaborations, and focus on energy-driven innovation.’

Dr. K. Kamalakkannan, Head of the Department of Automobile Engineering, SRMIST, described the conference as a vital platform to explore advancements in hydrogen technologies, electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and sustainable infrastructure. He encouraged participants to actively engage with international experts and build impactful collaborations.

The two-day conference serves as a global platform for exchanging ideas and showcasing research across key areas including hydrogen fuel technologies, renewable energy charging, energy storage, and green infrastructure, fostering innovation and international collaboration toward a sustainable future. The conference aligns with the United Nations SDGs, contributing to clean energy (SDG 7), innovation (SDG 9), sustainable cities (SDG 11), and climate action (SDG 13), driving impactful solutions for a greener future.
