CHENNAI, INDIA – March, 2026 – In a significant move toward inclusive mobility, the Tamil Nadu Differently Abled Federation Charitable Trust (TNDFC Trust) successfully hosted its “Wheels of Empowerment” distribution ceremony at FEDABLED ARANGAM. The event marked a major milestone in assistive care, as 50 high-performance NeoMotionwheelchairs were handed over to beneficiaries, generously sponsored by BorgWarner Cooling Systems India Pvt Ltd.
Empowering Through Innovation
The “Wheels of Empowerment” project addresses the critical need for advanced assistive technology. Unlike standard wheelchairs, the NeoMotion units provided today are specifically engineered for enhanced outdoor mobility, allowing users to navigate diverse terrains with greater ease, speed, and dignity. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between physical limitation and social independence.
A Synergy of Leadership and Vision
The event was graced by an esteemed panel of guests from the corporate, government, and social sectors, all emphasizing the transformative power of corporate-NGO partnerships:
Corporate Commitment: The leadership team from BorgWarner, including Ms. Shirley Yu (HR Director – TTT Asia), Ms. Huang Sally (Finance Director), Mr. Li Bruce (APAC Regional BRM), and Mr. Shailesh Jha (Managing Director), personally participated in the distribution, reaffirming the company’s commitment to impactful CSR initiatives that drive social equity.
Government Support: Mrs. M. Lakshmi, I.A.S. (Commissioner) commended the Trust’s efforts, noting how such private-sector collaborations align perfectly with the state’s welfare goals for the differently-abled community. She stated that TNDFC and Borgwarner has joined together in distributing this 50 Wheelchairs. Our department functions independently in TN we are giving away lot of schemes for differently abled persons. The success starts only through mobility. Dr. P. Simmachandran, President of the Tamil Nadu Differently Abled Federation Charitable Trust (TNDFC), has officially announced a landmark Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnership aimed at revolutionizing the economic independence of differently-abled individuals across the state. In a heartfelt address, Dr. Simmachandran detailed the collaboration between the TNDFC Trust and corporate partner BorgWarner, which has committed a total sponsorship of Rs.75 Lakhs to the cause. The core of this initiative is the distribution of specialized, high-end mobility solutions. “We are providing equipment worth Rs.1.40 Lakhs to each beneficiary completely free of cost under this CSR scheme,” Dr. Simmachandran stated. Specifically, the program will provide petrol-free Electric Bikes and NeoMotionwheelchairs, designed to remove the physical and financial barriers to employment. Dr. Simmachandran highlighted that these vehicles are not merely for transport, but are essential tools for livelihood, enabling users to: Commute to formal workplaces with ease. Engage in the booming gig economy through food supply and delivery services like Zipto. Establish and manage their own small-scale businesses.
He also thanked all the sponsor tem members. Even the beneficiaries who has come to receive the wheelchairs.
The ceremony concluded with a live demonstration of the wheelchairs’ unique features and a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Thiru. K. Srinivasan, Vice President of the Trust.
