Halloween countdown is in full swing, and the Countryside of Philadelphia is gearing up for an exciting season of ghostlyexperiences. From spooky tours to adult trick or treats, pumpkin carving events to family-friendly themed celebrations, vibrant costumes to the beautiful hues of fall, the region presents a spectacular lineup of seasonal celebrationsfor all ages.

Chester County History Center’s Plagues and Pestilence: A Walking Tour – select dates in September

In the 1800s, the area suffered from diseases like cholera, diphtheria, rabies, and smallpox. Locals were struck with fear, especially those with small children. This creepy but educational tour will explore how the diseases impacted families, and how they were able to overcome these troubling times. Additionally, the Chilling West Chester: A Dark History Walking Tour on select dates in October and November allows participants to discover the true stories of the countryside’s history, full of mischief and mayhem!

Chaddsford Winery Adult Trick or Treat – October 4 – November 2

Grab your costume and head to Chaddsford Winery for the wildly popular Adult Trick or Treat. Enjoy trick or treating for wine and seasonal snacks along with winery tours. This year, they are bringing fearful delights with a Twisted Fairy Tales theme and later, Twilight Tour at 5 pm. Costumes are encouraged, and fun is guaranteed.

The Great Pumpkin Carve – October 16, 17, 18

This widely popular three-day event is sure to get you into the Halloween Spirit. Every year, over 70 giant pumpkins are carved by local artists. On the first day, watch the gourds turn into jack-o-lanterns by the carvers and then lit, which aredisplayed until the next day. All three nights, enjoy a kid-friendly Haunted Trail, raffle prizes, and live music from “Kenny & Friends”.  Food, local craft beer, and wine are available for purchase.

West Chester Railroad Road Halloween Special – October 25 and 26

Enjoy a family-friendly Halloween treat on the tracks of the West Chester Railroad! Dress up in your favourite costume and take a trip through the beautiful Chester Creek Valley in all of its fall splendour! Children will be given treat bags during the festive ride.

Haunted Helicopters at the American Helicopter Museum, October 25

Join the American Helicopter Museum & Education Centerfor an evening of fun activities on October 25. Treats galore, interesting activities, kids’ movies, and scary music await visitors during the museum’s annual Haunted Helicopters. Come in costume and celebrate Halloween in one of the most unique venues around!

Fall Colours at Longwood Gardens 

Experience autumn’s colours at Longwood Gardens this fall from October 3-November 16. Watch the garden’s colours shift right before your eyes, and be awed by Autumn. Chrysanthemum Festival also makes its triumphant return starting October 24, so be sure to book your stay with untimed tickets at participating accommodations.
