Heart Education by Heart Patients: A World Heart Day Exclusive Program Presided by TN Chapter of the Cardiological Society of India

CHENNAI, INDIA – September 2025 – On World Heart Day 2025, the Tamil Nadu Chapter of the Cardiological Society of India (CSI) hosted a landmark event in Chennai, titled “Heart Education by Heart Patients,” to raise awareness about heart disease prevention and treatment. The program, which was the largest of its kind ever organized by the chapter, highlighted Tamil Nadu’s leading role in cardiac care.

The event, which was well-received for its unique approach, recognized that in the last decade, most of India’s innovations in heart treatments, including state-of-the-art procedures, have originated from Tamil Nadu. Dr. B. Kesavamoorthy, Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Chapter of CSI, was lauded for his exceptional efforts in organizing the exclusive gathering.

The event also celebrated the introduction of cutting-edge procedures like Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and Tran catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) in India. TAVR was pioneered in India from Chennai, and to commemorate his contributions, Dr. A. B. Gopalamurugan from Rajapalayam was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. He was recognized not only for his work in TAVR but also for introducing other innovations, including Laser Angioplasty.

In a first-of-its-kind program, former heart patients came forward to educate the public on heart disease prevention and treatment. Attendees heard inspiring stories from:

* India’s Longest-Living TAVR Patient: Who shared his remarkable journey since undergoing the procedure in 2015.World Heart Day 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of TAVR treatments in India.

* India’s Longest-Living Laser Angioplasty Patient: Who shared his experience and progress over the four years since the treatment was first introduced in Tamil Nadu for India in 2021.

* India’s Longest-Living Cardiac Transplant Patient: Who also addressed the gathering, offering a message of hope and resilience.

The meeting was attended by the National President of the Cardiological Society of India, Dr. Sanjay Tyagi, who acknowledged and appreciated the numerous contributions from Tamil Nadu to cardiac care in India. Other dignitaries present included Dr. Murugesan, President of the Tamil Nadu Chapter of CSI, and Dr. Kader Sahib, Vice President of the CSI Chapter. The event underscored Tamil Nadu’s prominent position as a hub for advanced heart treatments in the country.
