Chennai, Tamil Nadu: The CM of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, today hosted His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the 53rd leader of the worldwide Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community, at his residence in Chennai following the recently concluded Ashara Mubaraka congregation. P.K. Sekar Babu, Minister for Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments, Tamil Nadu, was present along with the Chief Minister.
Ashara Mubaraka, the annual Moharram congregation led by the Syedna which is held in different cities across the globe took place from June 27 to July 5, 2025. The event represented one of the community’s largest international gatherings in Tamil Nadu and was held in Chennai after a gap of 50 years.
43,000 community members—35,000 guests and 8,000 local Bohras—gathered in Saifee Masjid on SMB Street (Moore St.) and across nine other venues in the city, and thousands more joined via live telecast in 71 centers across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh and Colombo with an estimated total audience of approximately 2,50,000.
During the meeting, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Greater Chennai Corporation, Chennai Police, and other public service departments for their “unwavering support” in ensuring the comfort, safety and convenience of the thousands of attendees. He also prayed for the growth and prosperity of Tamil Nadu and people of Chennai.
M.K. Stalin acknowledged the Dawoodi Bohra community’s disciplined organisation, civic-mindedness, and their contributions to trade, enterprise and social development.
The occasion also underscored Tamil Nadu’s commitment to hospitality, cultural harmony and its growing reputation as a hub for important international congregations and conventions.
