New Logitech Report: Early Support Crucial to Retain Women in India’s Tech Workforce and Promote Gender Equality

Chennai, 9th April 2025 – Logitech today released a new research report, “What is next for working women in technology in India?, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities for women in India’s technology sector. The report is part of the Logitech MX #WomenWhoMaster initiative, which addresses the persistent gender gap in the technology industry by identifying key solutions to create a more inclusive and equitable environment.

Despite progress towards gender equality, only 33% of women participate in India’s workforce, and female representation in the tech sector has grown modestly in recent decades. Logitech’s research, conducted by Ipsos through a survey of developers and IT professionals in India and 1-on-1 in-depth interviews with female developers, reveals that microaggressions, lack of early encouragement, and workforce barriers are significant obstacles to women’s advancement in STEM fields.

“This important research by the MX team sheds light on the systemic barriers women face in India’s tech sector,” said Moninder Jain, Vice-President & Head of Emerging Markets, Logitech. “At Logitech, we are committed to empowering women in tech. By raising awareness about the current issues and helping build strong communities of support, we aim to create a thriving and equitable industry for all.”

In collaboration with Women in Tech India, a local organization dedicated to closing the gender gap and empowering women and girls to embrace technology, Logitech is raising awareness to three key challenges revealed by the report:

● Tackling Microaggressions and Encouraging Allyship: 44% of women surveyed regularly experienced microaggressions at work and school, and 86% have heard of a woman leaving her career as a result of misogynistic behavior. Solutions include creating diverse, inclusive workplaces through enhanced recruitment processes, allyship training programs, and inclusive policies.

● Providing Encouragement and Inspiration Early On: While 77% of women cited strong family encouragement, only 49% of women surveyed received similar support from teachers compared to 63% of surveyed men. Providing early exposure to tech through school programs alongside teacher training to address gender bias is crucial to inspiring more girls to enter STEM fields.

● Addressing Workforce Barriers and Fostering Communities of Support: Nearly half of women surveyed (49%) felt isolated while studying tech in high school and 21% reported facing financial difficulties that hindered their education. Mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and partnerships between academia and industry can help counter these barriers.

To better support women in India’s growing tech ecosystem, Logitech’s report provides actionable solutions for creating a more inclusive and supportive environment, starting from early education and continuing throughout women’s careers. As part of this effort, Logitech is partnering with key organizations in India to offer mentoring and skill-building programs that connect young people with role models and equip them with skills to thrive in the tech sector.

“Once you see the roots of the gender gap in three dimensions, you realize how complex the problem is, but you also begin to find more effective answers,” said Radhika Yuvraj Iyengar, Country Head, Women in Tech India. “By working closely with Logitech on this important initiative, we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment for women in India’s tech sector to unlock their full potential.”
