Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals Organises Walkathon to Encourage Proactive Kidney Health Measures

Chennai, March 23, 2025: Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, one of Chennai’s most trusted healthcare providers, organized a Walkathon today at Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, to raise awareness about kidney diseases and the risks associated with delayed diagnosis.

The event was flagged off by esteemed Chief Guests, Dr. K. Jayanth Murali, IPS (Retd.), Former DGP of Tamil Nadu, and Mrs. Lakshmy Ramakrishnan, Indian Actress and Director. Around 200 participants, including recovered kidney patients and healthcare professionals, joined the initiative to spread awareness about kidney health.

The Walkathon aimed to debunk common misconceptions such as the belief that kidney disease affects only older adults or that drinking excess water harms the kidneys. It also emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and preventive care.

Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals is one of the few hospitals in the region with a dedicated Pediatric Nephrology department, providing specialized care for children with kidney conditions. Speaking at the event, Dr. Kalaivani Ganesan, Head & Senior Consultant, Pediatric Nephrology, Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals, said, “Kidney diseases are often silent until they reach an advanced stage. Children, too, can be affected, and early intervention is crucial. Safeguarding kidney health requires a combination of healthy habits, regular screenings, and awareness of risk factors.”

She further emphasized, “Many individuals overlook the impact of delayed diagnosis on kidney health. Through this Walkathon, we encourage proactive steps such as routine health screenings and lifestyle modifications to protect kidney function.”

Dr. Mehta’s Hospitals remains committed to kidney health advocacy through awareness campaigns, diagnostic camps, and patient education programs. By fostering open discussions and providing reliable medical insights, the hospital empowers individuals to make informed choices and prevent kidney disease progression.
