The Rotary Club of Chennai Capital and Madras West Round Table 10 have joined hands to host the Chennai Golf League 2025, an exclusive charity tournament set to take place on February 14, 2025, at the Tamil Nadu Golf Federation (TNGF) Course, aimed at generating funds to support key initiatives undertaken by both organisations.
The event will feature ten competitive teams, each comprising eight players. The tournament will begin at 12 PM, with registration and reporting starting at 12:45 PM. It will conclude with a grand Awards Night on February 16, 2025, at Radisson Blu, Chennai, where outstanding performances on the course, as well as the contributions of participants, sponsors, and supporters, will be formally recognised.
This prestigious event, with Kotak Mahindra Bank as the title sponsor and HDFC ERGO as the power sponsor, will unite corporate leaders, business elites, and avid golf enthusiasts for a dynamic day on the greens, all in support of transformative social initiatives.
The proceeds from the golf league will support several key Rotary Club projects aimed at enhancing healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability. One of the primary beneficiaries is the expansion of the Sathyalok Dialysis Centre, which currently operates ten advanced dialysis machines to provide essential treatment for individuals suffering from kidney ailments. Additional funding will ensure the continued maintenance and operational efficiency of the centre.
Another significant initiative is the restoration of Medavakkam Lake, a large-scale environmental conservation project that has successfully rejuvenated the water body, improving sustainable water management and ecological balance. Further support will aid in its ongoing preservation and development efforts.
In addition to these projects, the funds will contribute to the refurbishment of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Ramachandra Hospital. The modernisation of this facility has already enhanced critical healthcare services for children, and continued funding will help further improve medical infrastructure and sustain healthcare advancements.
The Rotary Club is also focused on improving educational facilities, with plans to construct 14 new classrooms at Kelambakkam Government Girls High School. This initiative aims to provide quality education and better infrastructure for underserved students. Furthermore, additional funds will be directed towards expanding dialysis services by providing more machines, ensuring that life-saving treatment remains accessible to those in need.
The projects of MWRT 10 that will benefit from the golf league are: RTI School in Tandalam, constructed by MWRT 10, to provide quality education and infrastructure to underserved communities. The school benefits over 500 students annually, ensuring better learning opportunities for the next generation.
In the healthcare sector, funds will contribute to the expansion of MWRT 10’s Dialysis Centre in Porur. With the addition of ten new dialysis machines in Phase 2, the centre’s capacity has increased to 80-90%, benefiting nearly one million lives. The total cost of the project is Rs. 4 crore across both phases, with MWRT 10 contributing Rs. 25 lakhs in 2023-24 to acquire advanced medical equipment. Additional funding from the golf league will further enhance the centre’s capacity and operational efficiency.
The Unified Sports Carnival (USC), an annual event that brings joy and inclusion to over 1,000 children with special needs through sports and entertainment, will also benefit from the proceeds. The event fosters a sense of belonging and encourages participation in physical activities, making a meaningful impact on the lives of children with special needs.
This tournament not only showcases Chennai’s golfing talent but also underscores the power of sports in driving positive change.
