Chennai, November 2019: On the occasion of 4th Remembrance Anniversary of the Legendary Architect Shri. P.S. Govind Rao, Praveen Govind Rao unveiled the statue of his father, idol and greatest inspiration to honour him and to continue his father’s legacy through his work and art. The statue was unveiled at his residence in Poes Garden, Chennai today.
Chief Guests Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals, Dr. K M Cherian, Chairman & CEO, Frontier Lifeline Hospitals and Shri Thota Tharani, Art Director graced the occasion with their presence.
On this day, Mr.Praveen Govind Rao released a book in memory of his father Shri. P.S. Govindrao, in the presence of Chief guests and other celebrities who were present at the occasion. He also showcased an “Art Show” as a tribute to his father today at his residence.
Speaking about his father, Artist & Architect Mr.Praveen Govind Rao said, “Right from my younger age, I have been fascinated by art forms, shapes and structures. I was greatly inspired by my father, the legendary architect Late P.S Govind Rao and growing up in an environment that was so tuned to art and architecture”.
Shri P.S. Govind Rao was an eminent architect and a creative artist who has coloured Chennai and other metros with his innate love for art, structures and art forms. He was a leading architect particularly known for his Scale work. Some of the most daring large scale buildings in the southern metropolises were conceived as free hand sketches by the late P.S. Govind Rao before they went on to a drawing board.
To his credit are Andhra Mahila Sabha Hospital complex, Apollo Hospital, Apollo Cancer Hospital, Temple Towers, Temple Steps, Hotel Savera, Madras Medical Mission, SRMC (Porur) and Frontier Lifeline, among others. Mostly in mixed media, his work also embraced other forms of art, including installation art in glass and stone. He was also well-known for his unusual Bonsais and Saikei plant forms.
A renowned architect himself, Praveen Govind Rao’s exemplary work includes Kalaignar Arangam, Iskcon temple Burma, Iskcon temple Singapore, Ganesh temple in Singapore and he has sculpted numerous deities.
