Puducherry, July , 2018: Located at Keezhputhupattu village bordering Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Swami Vivekananda Rural Community College (SVRCC)recently upgradedtheir state of the art plumbing lab, with the financial aid from Grundfos India.Sri. K. Pandiarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Official Language, Tamil Culture and Archaeology, Government of Tamil NaduRanganath NK, Managing Director, Grundfos Indiaalong with G. V. Subramaniam, Founder, Swami Vivekananda Rural Community College inaugurated this state of the art plumbing lab.
In June 2014, Grundfos India helped SVRCC set up the plumbing workshop. Since then with the ever-increasing demand for plumbing technicians in the country, the Grundfos sponsored ‘Plumbing Technician’ course has become one of the most sought-after courses. The enrolment for this course has since doubled to 80 students and is further expected to rise to 120 students in FY 2019-20.Thus, an upgradation of the lab in terms of size, equipment and training facilities had become necessary to ensure that students’ training is in sync with the evolving needs of the plumbing industry. The college has also already completed the construction of their new Workshop Block which houses a bigger classroom and plumbing workshop area which also includes an area for live demos with the pumps provided by Grundfos India.
Thesix-month plumbing course in SVRCC introduces the plumbing trade, trade glossary, tools & equipment, documentation, materials, testing, safety, practice modules and on job site training. SVRCC also looks to impart training on pump usage and servicing, monitoring and troubleshooting of plumbing, installation in residential, institutional as well as commercial buildings. The collegealso guides the budding young entrepreneurs on how to run a small business. Additionally, this course also includes training on life skills, comprising of spoken and written English, basics of computer, soft skills, entrepreneurship, yoga and meditation.
