Shillong, Oct 17: The closing ceremony celebrations of St Francis Institute at Mawkasing were attended today by Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister, Dr Mukul M Sangma congratulating the Congregation of the Missionary Brothers of St Francis of Assisi (CMSF) for having served the region for 25 glorious years said that the journey of 25 years must have been difficult. He stated that Meghalaya has seen fast transformative changes I the socio-economic landscape and added that the agenda of the government is to reach out to all stakeholders in the crucial social sector of Education in imparting quality education to empower our youth to become productive citizens and not a liability to the society.
He also said that as people of Meghalaya we must understand the strength of education and leverage upon the name and fame of Shillong as a centre of education. He urged the youth to insulate themselves from the pulls and pushes of the challenges that confront us in our daily lives and contribute to the growth and development of the state and the nation as a whole.
Earlier, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the building to commemorate the Silver Jubilee in the school premises.
St Francis Institute was established in 1992 at Mawkasing and currently running St Francis D Assisi Higher secondary School, St Francis Boys’ Home and the St Francis Holistic Healing Centre (Alternative & Indigenous Medicine) & Dispensary.
Also present at the celebrations were Minister, PWD (R) etc Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA, Mawryngkneng, David Nongrum and Archbishop of Shillong, Rt Rev Dominic Jala. Principal & Superior, Bro Jinu Joseph gave the Welcome Address while Bro (Dr) Thomas Pulickal, Former Superior & Director St Francis Healing Centre gave a brief report on the establishment of the school and the healing centre.
