WORLD AIDS DAY – AWARENESS PROGRAMME
World AIDS Day 2018 was organised by Department of Venereology in
OPD Block, Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital on 05.12.2018.
As a beginning to the program, an awareness rally was conducted in the
hospital campus, inaugurated by Dean and office members, medical students,
Staff nurses and student nurses. Cultural performance in the form of dance
and skit was played by NGO’S and student nurses of Government Stanley
Medical College, in front of the general public highlighting the importance of
the World AIDS Day observation and the importance of knowing the status of
the disease by each individual. The general public was then addressed by the
Dean, GSH Prof Dr.Ponnambala Namasivayam regarding AIDS awareness and
this year theme “Know Your Status” following which Oath was taken and
signature campaign was done.
CME- “INTERPRETATION OF BLOOD TEST FOR HIV” The awareness
programme was followed by CME which was conducted in Plastic Surgery
Auditorium, New Tower Block,GSH. The program was inaugurated by the
Dean, Prof Dr.PonnambalaNamasivayam, in the presence of Dr.Selvi, Vice
Principle, Dr.Dhanasekharan, Deputy Superintendent and Dr. Ramesh,
Resident Medical Officer, Prof.Manimegalai, Head of Department, Department
of Venereology, Post Graduates, Medical students, Staff nurses and student
nurses. Presidential Address was given by Dean. The award winners of
ASTICON 2018 were given Certificates and Medal. The speech on
“Interpretation of Blood Test for HIV” was given by Prof. N. Usman, Professor
Emeritus, The TN Dr M.G.R Medical University and the session was chaired by
Prof. Dr.U.Umadevi, Professor of Microbiology and Officer in charge of NRL-HIV
Lab, Madras Medical College Following which felicitation was done for the
speaker and the chairperson. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Saran Kumar,
Assistant Professor, Department of Venereology, Government Stanley Medical
College and Hospital.
