STATE-LEVEL ROBOTICS COMPETITION – FROM ANNA UNIVERSITY

The State-Level Robotics competition conducted by M/s Caterpillar (Ind) Ltd., annually, essentially focusing on integrating Engineering skills involving Problem Solving, Design and analysis with professional ethics including management and team work. This event has about 7 years of history. M/s Caterpillar takes up the initiative to supply all the required components to the colleges, including Tetrix kits, electronic components such as motors, sensors etc., required to complete the task as well as the controller (Beagle Bone Black- Wireless). In which all the competing teams had to build a robot, from scratch, which will complete a game that comprises of two parts:  autonomous operation and a driver (joystick) controlled operation.

In this challenging event, which witnessed the participation of 6 leading colleges, comprising of 12 teams in all, the team  from Madras Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, emerged as the overall champion and also turned out to be the only team to have completed the autonomous task. The team comprised of 6 members namely,  Mr. Manikandan, 3rd year, Automobile Engineering; Mr. Barath Kumar, 3rd Year, Mechanical Engineering;    Mr. Aswin, 3rd Year, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering; Ms. Gowri, 2nd Year, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering; Mr. Kishore, 2nd Year, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Ms. Kavya, 2nd Year, Production Technology.

“We began building the robot in the Embedded systems Laboratory of the Instrumentation Department. We worked continuously for about 2 months.  We would also like to thank Caterpillar (Ind) Ltd., for giving us this amazing opportunity and providing us with the essential components and accessories.” says Mr Manikandan, captain of the Team. As a reward, Caterpillar has offered an internship of 6 months duration to the Third years and In Plant Training to the second Years.

During the event, the Team’s Robot bagged a myriad of laurels from the Judges and Audience alike. Today (27.6.2018) Dr. M.K.Surappa, Vice Chancellor of Anna University,  congratulated the team for their achievement and wished them the best of luck for their future endeavors. Registrar of Anna University Dr.S.Ganesan, Dr.Thiyagarajan and Dr.Prakash also Participated in the occasion.
