World Space Week is celebrated every year from 4th October to 10th October to commemorate the exemplary achievements which have happened in space science since the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik-1, on 4th October 1957. The continuing outcomes of the space programmes across the world have helped common man and technocrats reap the benefits.
To propagate the benefits of the Indian Science Programme to the nation, the Indian Space Research organization’s ( ISRO’s) Sathish Dhawan Space Centre ( SDSC) has collaborated with Sathyabama University to celebrate the World Space Week this year. As a part of its 30th year celebrations, Sathyabama University takes pride in joining hands with SDSC to organize the Space Mela on 5th and 6th of October 2017 at the University premises.
The programme is organized to highlight to the school, college and University students the significant achievements that Indian Space Research Organization has witnessed. The two days event inaugurated by the Honourable State Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, Shri. K.A. Sengottaiyan, in the august presence of the University Chancellor Smt. Remibai Jeppiaar. Environment studies will be a key focus area in the curriculum next year, said School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan.

Written Quiz, Design Competition, Extempore Speech, Drawing competition and Fancy dress competition with the theme of Space, Science and Technology organized for the school and college students participating in World Space Week celebrations at Sathyabama University. Space Walk, Video Show on Space related activities, Exhibition of ISRO launch vehicle and satellite models are the other highlighting events ready to be witnessed during the two days programme.
Attractive awards given to the winners. The winners of the Final Quiz will be honoured with a chance to witness the rocket launch from Mission Control Centre, Sriharikota. The two days event came to a close with a valedictory address delivered by the Honourable Minister of State for Tamil Official Language, Tamil Culture and Archaeology, Shri.K. Pandiarajan.
