Chennai, March , 2019: A week-long gallery show displaying the acclaimed fantasy artworks of Dr Ezhil Vendan, a veteran animator and the students of EMagic Animation Academy. an animation training institute, and the visual arts students of city colleges, is inaugurated here today. The gallery show will be open for all between 10 am to 6 pm at Lalit Kala Academi till March 18, 2019. The chief guests of the inaugural function included Mr. S.P. Muthuraman, legendary Tamil film director, Mr. M. Sasikumar, Tamil film director and actor, Mr. Su. Venkatesan, renowned Tamil writer, Mr. R.C. Kamalakannan, National Award Winner and VFX supervisor for Baahubali 2, and Mr. Vezha Vendar, former minister of Tamilnadu.
The inauguration function also witnessed the release of Dark Spell, a hard bound book of premium format graphic novel, illustrated by Dr Ezhil Vendan.
Commenting on the event, Dr Ezhil Vendan, said, “This is a first of its kind effort combining art and animation. We have organized the show to promote the animation industry in Chennai. Over 500 students of visual arts and visual communication from different colleges and a large number of film personalities and executives from the entertainment industry are expected to attend the exhibition. The best entries from students will be awarded with prizes including Wacom digital tablets and scholarships for advanced animation courses.”
A highlight of the exhibition is the special show of Hanuman Vs Mahiravana, an animation film, based on Indian mythology, directed by Dr Ezhil Vendan. The film had won many awards including the “Best Animated Feature Film” award instituted by Bollywood Film Journalists Awards 2019.Produced by Green Gold and distributed by Yashraj Films, the film was released in 400 screens last year. Most of the character designs, storyboards and texturing were undertaken in Chennai.
The event would also feature live demonstrations on ‘3D Basis to Create Digital Artwork’, the screening of short films by the students of EMagic Animation Academy, and interactions on the ‘Influence of Animation in The Digital World’.
